Hey, I'm Jay.

I'm 55, and I'm figuring out the second half of my life as I go—openly, messily, and with little filter.

If you’re over 50 and sometimes feel like life’s gotten a little heavy—maybe stuck, worn down, or invisible in a crowd—you’re not alone. Pour yourself a warm drink, get comfortable, and let’s settle in together.

The Short Version of My Story

Over the years, I've worn a lot of hats—paralegal, public assistance specialist in government offices where the fluorescent lights always hummed, hands-on jobs in manufacturing and shipping, lunch shifts in food service, midnight calls as a medical caregiver, retail floors, admin desks, and now, most days, I drive people where they need to go. Each role left a mark: the smell of cardboard in a warehouse at dawn, the quiet of a hospital corridor at night, the steady rhythm of a steering wheel under my hands.

Every job taught me something—about grit, about people, and about what it means to get knocked down and stand up again, even when your feet ache.

I’m also a divorced dad with a grown daughter. When the marriage ended, I felt like the ground shifted under me—money troubles, lost sleep, heavy heart, the works. I won’t spill every detail, but I will say this: I clawed my way back, slow as sunrise, sometimes just putting one foot in front of the other until the morning felt a little lighter.

What Got Me Through

No magic fix, no lightning-bolt wisdom. Just small, stubborn things, done day after day:

  • Morning devotionals
  • Coffee and quiet
  • Long walks outside
  • Reading, writing, and time with the people I love

That’s still how I start most mornings. You’ll see traces of that routine everywhere on this site.

Why This Blog Exists

For the longest time, I followed the script: work four decades, retire with whatever’s left in the bank, and cross your fingers it’ll last.

Nobody ever pulled me aside to say, "Hey, your years count for something. What you’ve lived through matters to someone else."

But then friends, neighbors, even strangers started asking me things—how I stay steady, whether it’s crazy to quit a job, if anyone would ever pay for what I know. The questions kept coming.

After a while, keeping what I’d learned to myself started to feel selfish. So here I am, putting it all out in the open.

Who This Is For

You might:

  • Be working a job that leaves you wrung out, with retirement looking like a dot on the horizon—or a question mark.
  • Be punching the clock for the last time, but boredom creeps in, or you toss and turn at night, wondering whether your savings will stretch far enough.
  • Know you’ve got something to offer, but can’t quite put your finger on what—or who might care.
  • Get nervous about tech stuff, or you worry about getting scammed online—honestly, I feel the same way some days.
  • Be tired of hearing "just relax" from people who don’t get it.

If any of this hits home, you’re exactly who I’m talking to.

What You'll Find Here

  • Real talk for real questions—the kind folks actually ask me, not the ones people pretend to want answers to.
  • Practical ways to turn what you’ve lived through into something that matters—maybe even a new income source.
  • My path, unvarnished—what’s working, what flops, and all the messy bits in between as I build this at 55.
  • Calm, encouraging videos—most filmed on quiet morning walks when the world’s just waking up.

What I'm Not

I’m not a guru, and I definitely don’t have it all solved. No counselor badge, no fancy financial license—just a regular guy who’s stumbled, learned, and kept going.

I’ve collected a few bruises, learned a bit of wisdom the hard way, and want to walk alongside anyone looking for a next step.

Why I'm Doing This

I’m doing this for me, for my daughter, for my folks as they grow older. I want freedom—time, place, money—not to run away from life, but to show up for it, fully.

I’m finally steering my future in a new direction. If you’re ready, maybe I can help you do the same.
